What Now….
Things are a bit different for me right now... I am typing this with fingers that are sore and on the verge of blistering from sanding down a 64 Ford Falcon van, my bed is actually a couch complete with pink fuzzy blanket and I am down to having one pair of functioning pants in my possession. This is my new life... There is aways another side though. I have ...

Handsome Coffee Roasters
As you may or may not know, this last week has been a bit heavy on the “unexpected change” side of things for me. This last Friday was my last day at the grand old institution that is Intelligentsia. I gave up a full time salaried position as Director of Education, handed over the reins to the most aggressive training program in the country, shook hands with one of the ...

Deuces – a tale about leaving…
So, there is a little bit of news floating around right now that you may or may not have heard. A few folks have brought it to my attention so I thought it wise to address here real quick like. A little over 5 years ago I began working at this small specialty roaster by the name of Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea Traders. over the years I have cycled through several ...

Edelweiss – Tanzania part 3
The last few days I spent in Tanzania were not at EAFCA, the ABC or doing more boot camps. These were set aside for something just as special but very different. Devin Pedde and myself were lucky enough to spend 2 days under the care and guidance of the dynamic brother sister duo, Neel and Kavita Vohora. These two are fascinating enough that I would be endlessly enamored with them even if their job was counting grains of rice in ...
What it's about...
The coffee industry is a vast and diverse pool of professionals, amateurs, hobbyists, curious onlookers, dissenters and many more. We all have our place and role, good or bad, in the interchange that happens everyday in the world of coffee, be it specialty or otherwise. I stake my claim in the world of Specialty coffee as the current reigning World Barista Champion for 2010 and as Co-Founder of Handsome Coffee Roasters based in Los Angeles. My work involves working with Tyler Wells and Chris Owen to help start up Handsome as a roaster and retailer that aims to fulfill our dreams with no comprimises. On this website you’ll find evidence of my thoughts, travels, and efforts regarding all of this and hopefully you’ll add to it with a few contributions of your own.
Best Regards,
~Mp
